Faith in Action
The Faith Community was founded in 1977 by a group of men and women who committed themselves to radically living out the mission of Covenant House in service to youth in crisis. Today, Faith Community members come from all over the United States and Canada to serve for a year at one of five Covenant House sites. These Faith Community members endeavor to use the gifts they have been given in service to others.

Faith Community members commit to being a source of joy and encouragement for their fellow volunteers and staff at Covenant House.
Faith Community is a group of men and women who come together as full-time volunteers to serve the youth of Covenant House. Faith Community members commit to one year of service. This experience is about serving others. The foundation of our service is love. Faith Community members have the opportunity to serve at Covenant House, live in an intentional community with other Faith Community members, and share in daily prayer/reflection with their community.
Service
Covenant House is a crisis shelter that provides comprehensive services for homeless youth under the age of 21. The majority of Faith Community members serve in our Crisis Centers as Resident Advisors, Youth Advisors, or Case Managers.

Faith Community members share household responsibilities such as chores, grocery shopping, and meal preparation.
Volunteers receive training for their service placements, and serve 40 hours per week in regularly scheduled shifts. Placement for Faith Community members is available in New York City, NY; Ft Lauderdale, FL; Atlantic City, NJ; Detroit, MI; and Anchorage, AK.
Community
Faith Community members are very diverse in all respects. They come from all over the country, and range in age from just out of college to retired. Faith Community members commit to simple and healthy living, with an emphasis on respecting themselves, all those around them, and the environment.
Prayer/Reflection
The opportunity for daily communal and personal prayer/reflection offers the strength for Faith Community members to live and serve together. Members typically take turns leading the prayer/reflection time, which is at least 30 minutes per day, six days per week.
Prayer/reflection times may be early in the day or in the evening to accommodate members’ service schedules. Our community is rooted in our Catholic-Christian heritage; and, people of all or no faith backgrounds and religious traditions are both welcomed and respected.
